For everyone of you, who use wordpress as a platform with shared hosting for his/her blog will know the importance of this post. So before i start writing about how to reduce server load due to wordpress on shared hosting, i would talk a bit on wha prompted me to write this.

My another blog  Avinashtech – Software tips and tricks was hosted on a webhost which suspended my account as i have said in my previosu post due to high server use as they alleged. That all lead to me doing a bit of research on ways to reduce server load.

Many of you may not be knowing whats the limit of CPU usage you can have for your blog on your Shared hosting package. Generally this varies from 1-8%  but webhosts that oversell put the limit to just 1% of total server resourcs.

As wordpress runs using php excuting so many queries through php, hence if your site isnt optimised it may result in your blog exceeding the server resource limit. Apart from just the wordpress, its the plugins often that result in excessive server usages. Normally every wordpress blog is run along with 5-10 plugins.

Every guy who is running a wordpress blog knows how important a webhosting solution is for the blog. There are tons of webhosts available all claiming to  offer loads of features to run your blog/site smoothly.

When you start to search for webhost for your blog, you get very confused. The reason being the features which the Webhosts claim to offer are almost same and you cant decide which one to go for.

Same thing happened with me when i tried to move my another wordpress blog Avinashtech to a paid webhost. I was very confused. Finally i decided to host my blog with one of the big names in webhosting field ( i Wont name that webhost here though). I bought their 2 year shared hosting plan with unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space along with other features like one click installers for wordpress, forums etc.

I shifted my blog to the webhost and set it up with all my posts and plugins that are required for running of wordpress blog. All went good for 2 weeks then suddenly , my webhost shifted my blog to a lower end server and my site was offline for 1 day. The reason they gave was that i was using more server resources even though my blog was just having 1000 visitors/day maximum and was having 5 plugins with wordpress blog.

Finally i wasn’t able to reduce my blog resource taking stuff to the extent they wanted and my site was put offline for 2 days. I did my best but nothing happened. Their support just wanted me to move to VPS (Private virtual server) without trying to help me sincerely.

Finally i moved my blog to another Webhost after doing much more research. This time it was good and now my blog is running with much more plugins with same money i spent on previous host and its running great and smooth there.
