Its been a long time since i wrote anything here. Actually was a bit busy with so many stuffs. Anyway, today i will talk about something which is very important for running of any blog or website. How to keep track of your website stats or visitors coming to your site.

The importance of tracking your visitors  and other website stats like traffic details, geographical stats, search engine traffic and much more helps you manage your blog in a efficient way helping you make it grow more and more. There are many trackers available which help you do this. These includes some plugins from wordpress and other developers and few other ones.

I will be talking about Statcounter here as i find it too good and provide wealth of information for free( yes no dime at all) and that too in real time. Here is what you read on its front page.

  • Invisible Tracking – no ads on your website.

When i first thought of starting my own blog i had two options of the platform on which the blog will run. First one was Blogger which is owned by google and other was the Wordpress. At that particular time i wasnt aware much of the know how about Blogs and its management.

I started both with Wordpress.com and Blogger for my first blog Avinashteh.  I started with few posts both on wordpress and blogger. But then later on i found i cant have full control over my blog on Wordpress.com as its doesnt allow all features that a self owned (hosted on a paid server e.g. on shared hosting ) and hence i shifted to Blogger fully.

One of the reasons i shifted to blogger was that i was almost blank on how to use wordpress fully. Initially it was like, i wasnt even aware of whats difference between a wordpress.com & wordpress.org along with whats a paid hosting. I tried to find out how the diff options like plugins and themes worked but couldnt get full satisfaction on wordpress.

Then after few months on blogger which allowed me more control on my blog, i started to feel crippled by the options available on it compared to wordpress. Till then i had collected a good enough knowledge of wordpress and hence thought of shifting to wordpress platform.

I moved whole of my blogger blog to wordpress platform on a paid host. The story is more but i will stop this story here.

Now i will talk about how to install Wordpress locally on your system so that you can test your blog before making it available online without any errors.
