WordPress 2.8 beta 1 is released to public testing. The new version had loads of improvements in user features, themes, plugins and other advanced features including many bug fixes. Some of the improvemnts that came with it includes improved datbase performance, a new theme search and installer feature.

I downloaded this version and installed wordpress on my local system to test it. I logged in using the deault password generated during the install. The first thing i noticed , it asked me to change the default wordpress passord that was generated for secuirty reasons.
Another great feature that comes with this version of wordpress is a cool theme search and install feature. It lets you search themes depending on your needs and design features just as wordpress 2.7 let you do with add new plugin feature.
This addional feature adds spice to your blog by helping you select the design requirements of your blog design and hence help you search a good theme for your needs. This was one of the features that was required in wordpress as the search feature on wordpress themes site wasnt that good.
But be cautious, its till in beta and may have bugs in. So you can just test it on any test blog site not on a full fledged site.
